DESCRIPTION:Meeting at the Crossroads: Community\, Safe Spaces\, and Professional Critique in a Pandemic\nDate: April 2nd\, 6:00 pm. Via Zoom; This event is open to the public. \n\nOur speaker event intends to bring to the forefront a current and applicable conversation in reference to the COVID-19 pandemic and the recent change of political power here in the U.S. As we witnessed\, the pandemic and societal climate had a great impact on academia\, health\, and legal affairs. Thus\, the event will have a panel with professional representatives from the humanities\, law\, and medicine to discuss the following questions: How has the pandemic impacted your field? What does this transitory period in reference to this change of power in society (Trump to Biden) look like for you and how has that affected your line of work? What’s working and what’s not? What needs to change? What do you foresee or hope for in the near future? \n\n\nWe hope that this event draws in an audience with an interest in these fields and creates a sense of community\, not just intra-departmentally but also inter within UF’s campus. This event is also meant to reflect diversity and support for the Black student population on our campus and we hope this panel and discussion is a welcoming space for that. \n\n\nOur confirmed speakers are Dr.Bernard Ashby\, a leading cardiologist in the state of Florida that has been a reoccurring guest and Medical expert on MSNBC with Joy Reid discussing the pandemic and its effects on communities of color.  Dr. Chesya Burke\, an Assistant Professor and notable author who has published over a hundred short stories\, articles\, and essays in multiple magazines\, journals\, and anthologies. Most notable is her work “Let’s Play White.” Attorney Camara Williams\, who is an activist and host of the podcast Uncultured Bias which discusses politics\, and laws affecting Black and Brown Communities especially during and post-Trump administration. \nLink for Event Registration: https://forms.gle/SNY4tf4kez8gDaTu5
