Advance Registration for Spring 2023 Upper-Division Creative-Writing Courses:
Deadline is October 10, 2023
Advance registration for Spring 2024 3000- and 4000-level CRW courses will proceed in two stages: departmental registration based on manuscript submission and subsequent open registration on ONE.UF for students who meet the official prerequisites.
1. Departmental Registration Based on Manuscript Submission
To be registered by the department for CRW 3110, 3310, 4905, or 4906, you must 1) meet the prerequisite (see below) and 2) submit a manuscript to the instructor. Each manuscript you submit for each course to which you apply must be accompanied by a Manuscript Cover Sheet, which is available which is available on the English Department website (Submitting Manuscripts for Upper-Division Creative Writing (CRW) Courses)
The prerequisite for CRW 3310 can be either CRW 1301 or CRW 2300. The prerequisite for CRW 3110 is CRW 2100. In exceptional cases, students may apply to CRW 3110 with only CRW 1101 as a prerequisite. In order to register for CRW 4905 or 4906, students must have completed the 3000-level course in the same genre. Transfer students should consult the undergraduate coordinator to determine if courses taken elsewhere fulfill the prerequisite.
The upper-division CRW courses on offer in Spring 2024 are listed below, as are the names of the professors teaching them. Please look carefully at the course descriptions on the English department website. Depending on who is teaching, sections with the same course number may have different focuses.
For CRW 3310 or CRW 4906, submit four poems. For CRW 3110 or CRW 4905, submit one short story or an excerpt from a longer work (up to 20 pages). Submit your manuscripts directly to the professor via email, including your cover sheet as an attachment. If you are applying to a poetry workshop, put your name on each poem you submit.
You may take 3000- or 4000-level CRW courses up to three times each. You may also take 3000-level courses after taking 4000-level courses. You may not take more than six upper-division CRW courses during your time at UF or enroll simultaneously in two CRW courses in the same genre. You may take a fiction course and a poetry course in the same semester. You may also take courses from the same professor more than once, though not in the same semester.
