Karen Libby

Ph.D. Student

 

Karen Libby is a PhD candidate in English at the University of Florida. Her fields of study include American literature and culture, visual rhetoric, popular culture, and queer and gender theories. Karen’s dissertation research explores the community-building work of mid-to-late-20th-century lesbian literature. The focus of this project traces the ways in which different literary forms during this era responded to publishing barriers and conceived of lesbian, queer, and feminist community and identity. Karen’s teaching experience includes introductory literature and composition, professional communication, ENC1131: Writing About Feminism, and AML2410: Gender Norms and Nonconformity in American Literature. Karen has also developed and taught
public creative workshops with We Rock Gainesville and the Harn Museum of Art.
