English Department Orientation Day 1

August 15, 2022 @ 1:00 pm - 1:45 pm

Location: Hebert Library, in the English Department main office; will also be available on Zoom

1:00-1:45 Admin and Office Introduction and Welcome

Department Administrative Leaders and core office staff will introduce themselves, clarify their roles, and help you put faces to names.  Incoming graduate students will also introduce themselves to the group. Participants: Sid Dobrin , Anastasia Ulanowicz, Raúl Sánchez, Roger Maioli, Leah Rosenberg,  David Leavitt, Kenneth Kidd, Melissa Davis, Carla Blount, Peggy Lowenstein, Lynn Harris, new students.

2:15-3:00 Getting Oriented (1): PhD + MFA.

Peggy Lowenstein and Leah Rosenberg will review basic orientation details relevant to all students in the program: offices, mailroom, your schedule and getting ready for your fall classes, the course preference process, understanding your FTE, and more.  We will circulate a handout ahead and you can ask questions during the session.

3:15-4:15 Grad Roundtable: What are you working on?

Current students in the PhD and MFA programs visit orientation to introduce themselves, offer a snapshot of their work, and answer your questions about pursuing your interest areas while at UF.  Featured speakers:

4:15-5:00 Walking tour of UF campus (weather permitting), hosted by EGO and Leah Rosenberg
