Professor Emerita
Marie Nelson received her PhD from the University of Oregon. Her publications include two books, Structures of Opposition in Old English Poems and Judith, Juliana, and Elene: Three Fighting Saints, and essays on Old and Modern English Literature in Speculum, Oral Tradition,Language and Style, and other journals.
Professor Nelson has also written a series of “teaching texts”: Words on the Page: Writing About Language, Readings for History of the English Language, and Chaucer/Chaucer’s Women, along with three sets of exercises for her undergraduate and graduate courses: “Old English Riddles,” “Working Texts,” and “Heroes in Transformation.” While a member of the UF Department of English, she taught courses on Writing about Aggression, Writing about Language, Fantasy, Old English, Chaucer/Chaucer’s Women, and History of the English Language. She continues to teach ENC3310: Advanced Exposition/Writing about Language for the University of Florida Honors Program.
