Sophia Espaillat

Ph.D. Student

She is wearing all black and has long blond hair.Sophia Espaillat is a PhD student with a concentration in Critical Theory and Cultural Studies. Her research interests include Posthumanism and Postcolonial Literature. Her projects are inspired by the tireless work of grassroots activists. She is currently examining the rise of book bans within the United States and leverages decolonial approaches towards the episteme and understanding of world-systems impact on educational institutions. She serves as a Creative Writing committee member and former chair of the Junior Orange Bowl in collaboration with South Florida Writers Association, an non-profit organization that awards aspiring writers with publishing opportunities, scholarships, and multicultural experiences. She has taught a range of courses from Rhetoric and Composition, Techniques of Research, and Literature. She is a recipient of the Milbauer, Rawlings, and Grinter award.
